About Me

I’m a script consultant who has worked for companies including Miramax, Zoetrope, New Line and DNA, as well as with individual writers, and an arts journalist who has written for numerous newspapers and magazines on both sides of the Atlantic.

Some of the publications my work has appeared in include The Telegraph, The Times, The Guardian, The Independent, The Independent on Sunday, The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, The Nation, American Film, People Magazine, InStyle, salon.com and theartsdesk.com

Unlike the Pope (though of course we are in many other respects so similar), I play the game as well as enforce the rules. I co-wrote book and lyrics for three musicals (since moving to the UK I have realized they were really pantos for adults) that were produced in San Francisco at the Julian, Intersection, and Eureka Theaters and two further musicals that were produced in New York at the Theater for the New City.

I’ve also written two satirical shorts, Debate of The Dead and Nancy With An ‘N’, that have been widely exhibited in international festivals – winning prizes at Chicago, Toronto, The American Film Institute, and Hiroshima – and shown on broadcast or cable in New York, Los Angeles, Holland and Nicaragua.

Over the past three years I’ve finally bitten the bullet and completed three feature-length spec scripts, if only to show I can take it as well as dish it out. I also teach screenwriting at Roehampton University and have run scriptwriting workshops for The Prince’s Trust.
